Back to Past Successful Projects

  Recycling Centre in Dettah

Who:       Yellowknives Dene First Nation

Where:    Dettah

What:      The Yellowknives Dene First Nation has set up a satellite recycling centre and household hazardous waste collection area in Dettah as a one-year pilot project. Since September 2014 recyclable materials have been collected and transported to the City of Yellowknife Solid Waste Facility, to be included in the City of Yellowknife’s recycling program. Household hazardous waste (such as batteries and used oil) is also being collected, safely stored temporarily, and transported to the local hazardous waste processor for safe recycling or disposal. Members of the community have been successfully using the recycling bins, and the first load of recyclables was taken to Yellowknife for baling in October 2014. The Yellowknives Dene First Nation is optimistic that the project will continue for many years to come!
